BIO
Hi my name is Mieko. I was born in Aizu-Wakamatsu in Fukushima prefecture in Japan. Aizu-Wakamatsu is well known as a Samurai town and actually my ancestor was one of them. That is my fun fact. Aizu is one of my favorite places to visit. I spent most of my life in Japan but moved to the Northwest part of the U.S. some years ago.
In terms of my art background, I have enjoyed painting since I was young. My first art teacher was my dad who also likes art. The first time I learned to paint was an oil painting art class in my junior high school. My mother also sent me to private oil painting classes in Japan. After I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I started to learn Tole painting (decorative painting) from Japanese and American instructors at local craft shops. This was the first time I learned how to use acrylic paint and the basics of acrylic painting. Immediately I fell in love with acrylic painting. Acrylic paint is so easy to use, has no smell and is water washable. And by using acrylic medium, gloss and other medium you can make acrylic paint thicker, thinner or shiny. I still love to use JO SONJA's acrylic paint.
I began to paint seriously after I stumbled upon the A/NT gallery. The gallery is run by Seattle local artists and it is open to any artist and volunteers support the whole gallery. A/NT gallery was perfect gallery for me. As soon as I found out about it, I hanged my first public acrylic painting and on that opening day my painting was sold! Since then I have sold various paintings and prints. And big thank you to those who bought my artworks as it really encouraged me as an artist.
Recently I decided to take my art Online to make it more broadly available and what you are seeing is my first website. I hope you enjoy my art and I look forward to hearing from you.
CONCEPT
As you can see, I specialize in contemporary acrylic landscape paintings and portrait paintings but I also do abstract painting and other paintings. When I sense the moment, the air, or anything I think is beautiful, I try to remember that moment and take a picture and then turn it into a painting with my heart-felt feeling. Even though I try to recreate the core essence of the photograph in my painting it always ends up with my unique style and ultimately never looks exactly like the picture. But that is the beauty of painting and my style. Every painting tells a story in it. I want to share with everyone my joy of art and my point of view through my art work.
